The Foxes take MWC 2022

Oppo Stand at MWC 2022

MWC is somewhat of an institution in the mobile technology world – a buzzing hub of the latest innovations from smartphone brands to networking providers. From laptops and tablets to smartphones and virtual reality, the biggest manufacturers use MWC as a launchpad for new product announcements. It’s hard not to be in awe of the sheer scale of MWC – hundreds of booths with revolutionary tech, from rollercoaster-style rides to a 5G barman and AR-galore, it’s a playground for seeing the latest and greatest technology all in one place. When our client, OPPO, tasked Eat the Fox to jet over to Barcelona for MWC, it’s safe to say the excitement was tangible – with it being the great return of MWC since the pandemic.

Before setting off to sunny Barcelona, the wider team cracked on with preparations – connecting with journalists and analysts to invite them to OPPO’s array of activities at the show, to give them a flavour of what the brand has to offer.

Before I knew it, I was sat on the plane heading to Barcelona! Once I’d dropped off my bags, I headed on over to the Fira Barcelona Gran Via to get stuck into the MWC action. Once I’d got my bearings and checked out the OPPO booth, it was time to head on down to the Barcelona marina for a sunset boat tour. On board, I was joined by journalists from the likes of Wired, T3, and Stuff, to take part in a masterclass with photographer Luke Stackpoole to learn how to capture awesome pictures using OPPO’s newest smartphone, the Find X5 Pro. The media had an enjoyable evening of photography, canapés, and a beautiful sunset, and it was a great opportunity for us to catch-up in-person too.

Day two! I was up bright and early to head over to MWC for a jam-packed day of keynotes, Q&A’s, and interviews at the dazzling OPPO booth. Throughout the day I hosted media including Talk Android and Tech Advisor to get hands-on with the latest innovations showcased at the OPPO stand, including AR glasses and foldable phones. Guests could also try out a low-light shooting experience of a mini-Barcelona at night, to test out the night mode photography capabilities of the brand-new Find X5 Pro. I also hosted an interview with Mobile News and OPPO’s new UK MD, Charleen Fang, to talk about her ambitions for OPPO UK. And of course, as is a MWC rite of passage, I found some time for pin collecting before the day was over!

My last day at MWC was already upon me, and the day involved inviting analysts including Canalys, ABI Research and Omdia to chat to come along to the OPPO keynote and chat to execs in the Q&A sessions. I had one final play with the OPPO tech on show before it was time to head back to the airport, after an amazing (if not tiring!) few days at MWC. Personal highlights included getting hands-on time with the latest tech such as the OPPO AR Glass and Find N foldable phone, as well as having the opportunity to catch-up with journalists in person. It was exciting to feel the buzz of MWC, and to see it return in all its glory – I can’t wait to do it all over again soon!
